Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Mike now lives in Hanover, Pennsylvania, with his wife, Jen, and their three daughters. He writes a monthly column for Writer . . .Interrupted. He was a newspaper correspondent/columnist for over three years and has published several articles for The Candle of Prayer inspirational booklets. Mike also has edited and contributed to numerous Christian-themed Web sites and e-newsletters.

Mike is a member of the American Christian Fiction Writers, the Christian Fiction Blog Alliance, the Relief Writer's Network, and International Thriller Writers. He received his BA degree in sports exercise and medicine from Messiah College and his MBS degree in theology from Master's Graduate School of Divinity.

Annie Get Your Gun

For Mariah's Birthday, we decided to celebrate by taking in a show. Annie Get Your Gun was playing! I'm so glad our girls got to see this well known, much loved classic. Especially since it was performed so well. The cast, costumes, set design, and the music were all incredible.

Washington's Lady by Nancy Moser

Step into the Revolutionary era with an (almost) fictional account of Martha Custis Washington's life as wife of a French and Indian war hero-turned-farmer, Revolutionary war General, and Father of our country. As they say, "without George Washington" there would be no United States. But without Martha, there would be no George Washington."

Though the account is part of a fictional series, the research put into the character and events of Martha's life make for an enlightening read. Author Nancy Moser states that she filled in the blanks with her imagination only when historical facts were not available.

Unlike modern-day politicians, the Washingtons were eager to serve, yet reluctant to have the glory, and preferred a quiet farming life of Mount Vernon in solitude to the chaos of public office. If only modern politicians would follow their example!

Martha encouraged and stood by him the entire way, even traveling to winter camp each year during the war to provide care and comfort to the troops. She raised money for shirts and other necessities for soldiers, even nursing the wounded. At times, there was little hope of success and even smaller support from congress. She spent much of her fortune (left to her by her first husband) in the war effort. Though loss of life was common at the time, Martha endured more than her share and grieved the loss of every child she bore. Her comforts came in her husband, grandchildren, and the life they shared at Mount Vernon.

Nancy Moser's beautiful descriptions and exhaustive research create a memorable story and deep insight into the life of our country's first lady. After reading it I appreciate all she and her husband sacrificed to ensure the success of our fledgling country.
